Analysis of wind turbine tower and foundation

To accelerate the adoption of wind energy, research is needed to reduce the risk and the cost. On-going projects of our group include analysis of wind turbine tower and foundation subjected to extreme loading conditions, structural reliability of wind turbines, and wind energy potential assessment.
Smart materials and structural health monitoring

Smart materials have the potential to intelligently monitor the health of the structure, or to improve the performance of the structure dramatically. The research focuses on innovative application of smart materials in engineering problems, especially on wind-related problems.

Integrated aerodynamic analysis for long-span bridges

Modern bridges are prone to wind-induced vibrations due to long span lengths and slender decks. This research develops a method to perform integrated aerodynamic analysis for bridges, including buffeting, flutter, and vortex-induced vibrations.

Experimental and analytical investigation of connections to improve hurricane resistance of aluminum structures

This research seeks to improve the performance of aluminum connections to improve their hurricane resistance. Both experimental testing and code-based analytical investigation will be conducted.
Strategies to mitigate wind-induced vibrations on bridges

Wind-induced vibrations can cause serious damage to long-span bridges. The objective of this research is to investigate various strategies to mitigate the wind-induced vibrations.
