Mechanical Engineering Senior Seminar -MESS
This is a trial, zero-credit seminar course for Mechanical Engineering Seniors that is meant to complement the technical graduate seminar, and help you with the transition from your undergraduate years. It will be informative and fun, so please consider attending. For more info, check out the Topics/Outline for this seminar series.
The skills/knowledge that you can expect to have after attending all seminar sessions are as follows,
You should be able to:
- create a clean, clear, concise resume.
- confidently and successfully interview for a job.
- identify several funding opportunities for graduate school.
- compare the cost of graduate school to net income realized when working.
- successfully complete the graduate school application process.
- evaluate benefit packages for various job offers.
- have an awareness of the "softer" or political issues in the workplace.
- plan for retirement and long-term savings.
- identify qualities to be sought in a mentor.
- make smart consumer choices that will not compromise career creativity and freedom.
- use written, audio and video resources to gather in-depth information about career and financial topics.
