GRADING is at the discretion of the instructor and the TA. The final grade is based on the following:

HOMEWORK - 14% . (top)

• Each homework assignment will be posted on the EML3004C Homework Web Page at least 4 days before the assigment is due.
• Each homework assignment must be handed in within the first 10 minutes of class on the day that it is due.
• NO CREDIT will be given for late homework. (NO EXCEPTIONS)
• Problem solving is a major component of this course; therefore, a minimum of 40% credit will be given for an honest attempt at a problem. ("honest attempt" is determined by the instructor and/or TA.)
• Solutions for problems will be posted on the web by 10:00 pm on the day after the homework is due.
• Collaboration is allowed on problem sets; however, EACH STUDENT must hand in an ORIGINAL, COMPLETE, problem set.
• NOTE: If you are caught/seen copying a problem set, you will receive an automatic 1 letter-grade reduction in your final grade.
• DETAILS:
  • Homework is to be written on 8.5" x 11" paper -- ONE SIDE of the page only.
  • One problem per page (2nd problem on a page or on back will not be graded)
  • Pages must be stapled together.
  • NOTE: If we can't read it, we can't grade it.

• Attendance is mandatory.
• Attendance will be determined by a submitted quiz, or a submitted in-class assignment.
• A quiz may be given in the first 10 minutes of each class lecture, or at a random time during the lecture.
• On days when a quiz is not given, there may be an in-class assignment.
• There will be NO MAKEUPs for missed quizzes.; missed quizzes are given a grade of 0.
• Students with more than 4 ABSENCES will receive an "F" grade for the course.
• In-class assignments must be handed in when "time" is up.
• No credit will be given for in-class assignments that are handed in late, or not handed in.

• All students will be required to complete a design project.
• Periodic progress reports, sketches, and solved problems must be submitted.
• Project details will be discussed/described in class later in the semester.

• In addition to quizzes, there will be 4 in-class exams:

  8%	Exam #1:	Friday September 22, 2000
  17%	Exam #2:	Friday October 6, 2000
  17%	Exam #3:	Thursday October 26, 2000
  17%	Exam #4:	Friday December 1, 2000

• Accommodations can be made for students with disabilities -- please notify professor by the second week of classes.
• No makeup exams will be given.
• All exams are closed book.

• A portion of your grade will be determined by class participation, professionalism, and effort.
• This portion of your grade is determined by the professor.
