Product Specifications:

Our sponsor provided very detailed specifications when it came to the overall
design of our product. Along with these requirements we also applied our own
constraints to the performance as well as installation of our product. The constraints are
as follows:

Installation Requirements:

- Housing of design will be manufactured with flats spots in order to accommodate
assembly with a wrench
- Housing will mate with 1.5 inch National Pipe Thread standards as set by ASME

Nominal NPT Size - 1½"

Outer Diameter - 1.900 in (48.26 mm)

Threads/in - 11½
Pitch of Thread in(mm) - 0.08696 in (2.20878 mm)
- Housing will not exceed 3 lbs (based on density of brass and stainless steel with
dimension limits.)
- Housing will not exceed the dimensions of 1.5 in. by 8 in.
- Product will be designed in order to easily be disassembled and reassembled
with different components to accommodate varying flow rates (interchangeable
components)

Performance Requirements:

- Product will be designed to accept flow rates of 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100 gpm
- Product will be designed to recognize when the pressure drop exceeds the
minimum required to maintain flow (- 2 psi)
- Once the pressure drop is recognized the valve will be sensitive enough to react
and shut of the flow in less than 3 seconds.

Lifetime Expectancy:

- Product must be non-corrosive
- Must be able to function for a minimum of 20 yrs.

Estimated Cost Requirements:

- An estimate of spending to achieve our goal is broken down to the following:
o Brass Material- $200
o Stainless Steel Material-$200
o Varying Flow Pump – free (possibly provided by Tallahassee Fire
Academy)
o Stainless Springs (5 sets)- $100
o Flow meter- free (possibly provided by FSU Experimental Fluids Lab)
o Valves- $200
o PVC Piping and Fittings- $150
- Total Estimated Cost = $750
