At most American universities, research is performed by professors and graduate students, with little or no involvement from undergraduates. The objective of the Undergraduate Research Center for Cutting-Edge Technologies (URCCET) is to change that dynamic by allowing undergraduate students to be fully engaged in research activities. The mission of the Center is to promote undergraduate involvement in research activities and to encourage interested students to actively pursue graduate degrees in engineering, science and mathematics.

The principal motivation for the URCCET is to build a focused research environment aimed towards engaging minority undergraduate students in progressive research enterprise and to establish a "Center of Excellence" for undergraduate research activities at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering.
