Zanzibar Delegation Visits the College of Engineering
His Excellency Ambassador Seif Ali Iddi, Second Vice President of Zanzibar and a delegation of 30 representatives from Zanzibar and the African Union visited the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering on Thursday, November 3rd, 2011. Zanzibar, an island located in the Indian Ocean off of the coast of East Africa, is a semi-autonomous region of Tanzania.
The delegation was visiting Florida A&M University to seek help in the areas of engineering, agriculture, and business. The visit to the College of Engineering included a welcome from Dr. John Collier, interim dean, and a presentation on the College from Dr. Primus Mtenga, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering. Dr. Mtenga is a native of Tanzania and has received a Fulbright scholarship to conduct research in the country next year.
The delegation also toured several engineering laboratories including Dr. Subramanian Ramakrishan's Complex Fluids Laboratory, Dr. Samuel Grant's Magnetic Resonance Imaging Laboratory, Dr. Sungmoon Jung's Structures Laboratory, and Mr. Jim Horne's Manufacturing Instrumentation Laboratory. Dr. Reginald Perry, associate dean, provided the group with a demonstration of the College's distance learning capabilities. The visit concluded with a discussion of an exchange of students and faculty between the College and Zanzibar, and a presentation of gifts from the College to each member of the delegation.
