Dr. Norman Thagard, Professor of Electrical Engineering and Director of College Relations, has been appointed to the Editorial Board of the Journal of Human Performance in Extreme Environments. This publication of the Society for Human Performance in Extreme Environments is devoted to scientific papers dealing with human psychological and physiological responses to unusual environments such as encountered in space travel or deep sea exploration.
Dr. Thagard received a BS and MS in engineering science from Florida State University, and the MD degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He was a NASA astronaut, participating in several space missions, including over 100 days as a cosmonaut on the Russian MIR space station. He is thus eminently qualified from personal experience to judge research in extreme environments.
