Dr. Thagard Appointed to Air University Board of Visitors

In a recent announcement, Col. Ronald Townsend, Commandant of the Air Force Institute of Technology, stated that Dr. Norman Thagard, Professor of Electrical Engineering and Director of College Relations at COE, has been appointed to the AFIT Board of Visitors.

The Board of Visitors is comprised of distinguished members of the academic, professional, military and industrial communities. It provides advice, and reviews and makes recommendations on AFIT programs, administration, management, accreditation, admission requirements, curricula, instruction, research and facilities.

The Board is composed of up to nine members, who serve up to two terms of two years duration. Each board member must be approved by the Secretary of the Air Force.

Dr. Thagard holds a B.S. and M.S. degree in engineering science from FSU, and an MD degree from the Texas Southwestern Medical School. He was a Marine fighter pilot and a NASA astronaut, and was the first American to fly aboard the Russian MIR space station. Upon retirement from NASA, Dr. Thagard joined the College of Engineering in January 1996.
