Local High Schools Compete in Engineering Competition

Tallahassee, FL, February 19th, 2008 — The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering hosted high school students from the local area in the 2008 Tests of Engineering, Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science (TEAMS) competition on Saturday, February 16, 2008. The competition was held at the Challenger Learning Center.

Sponsored by the Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS), TEAMS reaches over 14,000 high school students, 700 science/math/ physics teachers and is held at over 100 colleges and universities each year. From this one competition, students receive local, state, and national awards and recognition.

The TEAMS competition is a one-day event that requires students to think critically. The test questions posed represent college freshman-level engineering coursework and they offer students the opportunity to see how engineering touches almost every aspect of our lives.

This year's winning teams from the Tallahassee area are Lawton Chile's High School coached by Ms. Lesa Johnson and Mr. Sean Crowe in the varsity division and in the junior varsity division Rickard's High School coached by Mr. Dan Kiser won first place. Other schools that competed in the event include Maclay High School and Godby High School.

These teams are now eligible for state and national honors.
