Strong Winds Hit Engineering School
The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering was host to a squall line of severe thunderstorms that ripped through the campus early evening. Paul Duval, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service on FSU campus said they currently think the college experienced straight-line winds gusts of up to possibly 75mph. They do not think a tornado touched down at this time but are still planning to check out the damage that is done to further assess things.
Raymond Bendt, a senior in Civil Engineering said he parked his car around 7pm and that it was lightly sprinkling at the time...then the wind came. He fortunately was safely inside and had been there for only a few minutes when a tree had got uprooted and crashed into his car. Some electrical engineering students were working on their senior design projects when the wind soared through open doors in the hall and apparently, caused part of the ceiling tiles to lift up and drop hard. Wright Finney, of the Chemical Department got his windshield cracked while he was here that evening. A student in his department also had his back windshield cracked by the storm. Delandrea Humose who works in the Mechanical Engineering department got to her office this morning to see the windows blown open and some of the ceiling tiles blown off, as well as debris in the work area. Fortunately no one at the Engineering school was hurt due to the storm.
