Professor Van Sciver Elected Fellow of ASME
Prof. Steven W. Van Sciver of the Mechanical Engineering Department has been elected as a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in recognition of his achievements in the fields of cryogenics and magnetism. Prof. Van Sciver received his Ph.D. in 1976 from the University of Washington, and began his research career at the University of Wisconsin studying superfluid helium for large-scale magnet applications. He came to the College of Engineering in 1991, where he holds a joint position with the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory as Director of Magnet Science and Technology. In this capacity he is continuing his research in low temperatures and magnet design.
