The Florida A&M University-Florida State University College of Engineering will host its 13th annual Industry Day on Feb. 26-27, 2008. All events, which are free and open to the public, will take place at the College of Engineering, located at 2525 Pottsdamer Street in Tallahassee's Innovation Park.

Industry Day 2008 is cosponsored by the College of Engineering with industry and government partners. The event brings together representatives of industry and government, the academic community and students to discuss many facets of engineering education, research and the engineering profession. More than 50 companies and government agencies will be represented at this year's event.

An engineering team competition will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 26, with students and industry mentors working together to complete a project. Pratt Whitney Rocketdyne is sponsoring the design competition and has masterminded the event. The public is invited to come observe the launching of nonflammable objects made by the teams. The launchings will take place in the vacant field at the corner of Levy Avenue and Engineer's Drive. Judges will render their decision for a first-place team and for the most innovative design. This year's sponsors for the design competition include Embarq, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Harris Corporation, Northrop Grumman, Kimley-Horne and Associates, and Cummins Inc.

The keynote speaker for this year is Greg Boebinger, director of the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory. Boebinger's presentation, which will take place at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Room B210 of the College of Engineering, is titled "Levitation, Superconductivity, and the World's Largest Magnets."

The engineering recruiting exposition will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 27. Almost 40 companies will be represented at the exposition. Students will be able to obtain information about internships, jobs and other benefits in working with some of the top employers of engineers.
