Mayor Proclaims Engineers Week in Tallahassee

Mayor Ron Weaver of the City of Tallahassee officially proclaimed National Engineers Week in Tallahassee in recognition of the outstanding efforts of the College and its students and faculty. The Proclamation Follows:

  • WHEREAS, engineers have used their scientific and technical knowledge and skills in creative and innovative ways to fulfill society's needs; and
  • WHEREAS, members of the engineering profession face the major technological challenges of our time, from rebuilding communities devastated by natural disasters to designing an information superhighway that will speed our country into the 21st century; and
  • WHEREAS, to enable those persons in the engineering field to effectively face those challenges, they must acquire skills gained by developing a breadth of knowledge in many educational disciplines; and
  • WHEREAS, today's engineers encourage the young people of our country to fully realize the practical power of their knowledge, particularly in the fields of mathematics and science, thereby enabling those students who desire a career in engineering to pursue it by applying themselves continuously while in school; and
  • WHEREAS, as our nation, state, and city continue to develop into the 21st century, tomorrow's citizens will look more than ever to current and future engineers to create a world full of opportunity for all mankind;
  • NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ron Weaver, by the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Tallahassee, do hereby proclaim the week of February 17-22, 1997 as

NATIONAL ENGINEERS WEEK in the City of Tallahassee, and urge all citizens to support the outstanding efforts of the students at the Florida A&M University-Florida State University College of Engineering.
