College Honors Chancellor Reed

Dr. Charles E. Reed, Chancellor of the State University System of Florida, was honored on December 5th by the Engineering Advisory Board and the College Executive Council for his support of the College during his tenure as head of the university system. Dr. Reed will be leaving Florida in the spring to accept a position as Chancellor of the California State University System.

Dean Chen presented Dr. Reed a rendering of the new Phase II building, now under construction, citing "In appreciation of your support during the growth of the College and your service on the Joint Management Council" and "In maintaining the quality of the academic program and in meeting the resource needs of the College".

Dr. Reed remarked that his first task on becoming Chancellor in 1985 was to select the site for the Engineering College, which was then operating in borrowed space on both University campuses. He is a member of the Joint Management Council, which sets policy for the College, and has been a vocal spokesperson for the College. His most recent effort for the College is to advocate a proposed third building in conjunction with a Challenger Learning Center.
