Show That You Were Born to Give - College of Engineering Blood Drive
The Southeastern Community Blood Center was on the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering Campus Thursday, February 2nd from 12:30-4:30PM. The Center's blood mobile was located at the west entrance between building B and the portables for faculty, staff and students' convenience. Donors received a long sleeve red tee shirt for their effort that proclaims the wearer is "born to give"!
Engineering Faculty, Staff, and Students were asked to sign-up to donate ahead of time by contacting Jacob Lawson who coordinates volunteer activities as the Community Service Chair for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Chapter.
"Our goal was not only to give our members and fellow students a chance to serve others," explains Lawson, "but it's also a chance to actually save the lives of others. We had 39 donors sign up and 35 units of blood given. Our large donation is a great "gift" to the people that have need."
Lawson said that the ASCE-Student Chapter's goal was to get 30 donors who would surpass last semester's count of 20 and they did, beating their goal by 5.
"It was a great success!" exclaimed Lawson. "Everyone was very excited and happy to donate his or her time and blood to a good cause."
Also the Southeastern Community Blood Center folks contributed to this semester's success. "The blood bus can usually only do 32 donations in 4 hours, but they were able to step up to the challenge and make it happen," said Lawson.
