BBC-TV to cover College of Engineering Graduation on April 26th
British Broadcasting Company TV Science Producer Sam Roberts will come to Tallahassee next Saturday to film the Graduation Ceremony of the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering as part of a documentary they are producing about space exploration. The documentary will feature retired astronaut Dr. Norman Thagard, who is now B. F. Sliger Eminent Scholar and Professor of Electrical Engineering at the College. Dr. Thagard will give the "Charge to the Graduating Engineering Students" at the ceremony. Over a thousand people are expected to attend the ceremony during which over 200 graduates will be recognized. The ceremony will take place in the Civic Center Exhibition Hall at 2 PM.
Dr. Thagard was the first American to fly aboard the Russian MIR space station, and had a distinguished career as an astronaut before coming to the College of Engineering. His talk will follow the keynote address by Don Fuqua, President of the Aerospace Industries Association. Mr. Fuqua is a former U.S. Representative from Florida, and as Chairman of the House Committee on Science and Technology was influential in the founding of the College. He continues being active in the affairs of the College as co-chair of its Advisory Council.
