On a whirlwind tour of the Florida State University's various programs and schools, newly appointed FSU President E. J. Barron made a stop at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. One of the many departments President Barron visited was Electrical Engineering where students were making preparation for their senior design projects. President Barron got a first hand look at the students building solar powered robots. The robots that the students were working on were going to be judged on their abilities to perform various tasks and commands as an exercise for an upcoming IEEE Southeast Con annual Robot Competition to be held this Spring 2010.

Jeremy Nelson, an electrical engineering student at the college remarked, "It was a pleasure to meet Dr. Barron, especially during such an exciting time in our course study/" "The Senior Design Project is our chance to demonstrate all of the knowledge that we have gained over the past four years." Another student, Randall Serles, also an Electrical Engineering student remarked, "I was impressed that President Barron was so interested in our approach to our project. He seemed genuinely interested in what we were doing." President Barron indicated that, "engineering students were highly engaged and that they felt it (the engineering campus) was a great place to be", according to Braketta Ritzenthaler, Assistant Dean of Industry and Research. Ritzenthaler, also extended her a heartfelt thanks to the new president, saying "The Famu-FSU College of Engineering welcomes President Barron and to be able to present all of our accomplishments to Dr. Barron, is a true honor."
