Abdullah Named Associate VP for Research at FAMU

Dr. Makola M. Abdullah

Tallahassee, FL -- Makola M. Abdullah, Ph.D., has been appointed Associate Vice President for Research in the Division of Research at Florida A&M University. Dr. Abdullah, who assumed his new post on November 14, is a former associate professor in the FAMU-Florida State University College of Engineering Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

He is an internationally renowned researcher and educator with expertise in earthquake and wind engineering ( Wind Hazard and Earthquake Engineering Lab ) . His interests include: Evaluation of the Relative Performance of the Standard Building Code and the Florida Building Code, Evaluation of Practicality, Acceptability and Effectiveness of Retrofit Mitigation Measures and the use of Computational Wind Engineering in Structural Performance. He was recognized in 2003 by FAMU for his outstanding research and funding, and he has helped to secure nearly $5 million in research funding to the University over the past eight years. Dr. Abdullah has graduated three Ph.D.’s in the engineering sciences who have chosen careers in academia and industry.

Dr. Abdullah received his B.S. from Howard University and his M.S. and Ph.D. from Northwestern University.
