Did You Know?

  • Florida State University has joined a group of 36 higher education institutions across the country to launch Gig.U: The University Community Next Generation Innovation Project. The group advocates for faster off-campus Internet services.

  • A StarMetro city bus route runs between FSU and the College of Engineering every ½ hour from 6:50PM–10:10PM Monday thru Friday and Noon–6:00PM on the weekends. As always, this route is free to all current students and employees with a valid FSU ID card.

  • Explore the wonderful and rich history of Florida A&M University in the FAMU Digital Resource Center. Check out archives of Rattler yearbooks, the FAMUAN, Journey magazine, commencement programs, and sports publications.

  • Teaching and research at the College of Engineering is carried out in 200,000 square-feet of state-of-the-art facilities at the Innovation Park Campus. Over $125 million of research is being conducted under single and multiyear contracts.

  • Engineering Students and Faculty have access to many multi-disciplinary research centers, institutes and labs: APS, CAPS, CISCOR, ESC, FCAAP, FREEDM, HPMI, IESES, NHMFL.

  • The College of Engineering was selected as one of three engineering programs in the US to receive the 2009 Claire L. Felbinger Award for Diversity, awarded annually since 2005, by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.

Pre-College Summer Camps

FREEDM Renewable Energy Summer Camp

  • 1 Week long, free camp (students must be from Fairview which is our partnering middle school)
  • ~ 18 middle school participants
  • Dates: June 4 – June 8
  • Electricity, renewable energy, and engineering based activities
  • Field Trips to local Electric Power Stations (e.g., Hopkins Generating Station and the Corn Hydroelectric Power Plant)

FREEDM Young Scholars program

  • 5 week paid internship for high school students (student must be from either Godby, Leon, or Rickards)
  • Dates: June 18 – July 20
  • Focuses on steering college bound students toward engineering disciplines
  • In close collaboration with the Center for Advanced Power Systems (CAPS) and the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering
  • Engineering based field trips and activities

FREEDM Research Experiences for Teachers (RET) program

  • 5 week paid research experience for teachers (must be from either Godby, Leon, or Rickards)
  • ~ 4 high school teachers
  • Dates: June 18 – July 20
  • Teachers work closely with FREEDM mentors at CAPS

Challenger Learning Center Camps: K-8th grades

This year's themes include Wedo Legos, Rockin' Rockets, Astronaut Academy, Science of Sports, Arctic Adventure, CSI: Camp Scientific Investigator and much more. .
