Did You Know?

  • Florida State University has joined a group of 36 higher education institutions across the country to launch Gig.U: The University Community Next Generation Innovation Project. The group advocates for faster off-campus Internet services.

  • A StarMetro city bus route runs between FSU and the College of Engineering every ½ hour from 6:50PM–10:10PM Monday thru Friday and Noon–6:00PM on the weekends. As always, this route is free to all current students and employees with a valid FSU ID card.

  • Explore the wonderful and rich history of Florida A&M University in the FAMU Digital Resource Center. Check out archives of Rattler yearbooks, the FAMUAN, Journey magazine, commencement programs, and sports publications.

  • Teaching and research at the College of Engineering is carried out in 200,000 square-feet of state-of-the-art facilities at the Innovation Park Campus. Over $125 million of research is being conducted under single and multiyear contracts.

  • Engineering Students and Faculty have access to many multi-disciplinary research centers, institutes and labs: APS, CAPS, CISCOR, ESC, FCAAP, FREEDM, HPMI, IESES, NHMFL.

  • The College of Engineering was selected as one of three engineering programs in the US to receive the 2009 Claire L. Felbinger Award for Diversity, awarded annually since 2005, by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.

Pre-College Programs

The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering is committed to fostering an interest in the engineering field through a number of outreach programs geared to high school students and high school educators.

MATHCOUNTS

The MATHCOUNTS Competition is a national middle school coaching and competitive mathematics program that promotes mathematics achievement through a series of fun and engaging "bee" style contests. The program exists in all 50 states plus U.S. territories and the Department of Defense and State Department schools and is supported by the National Society of Professional Engineers at the state and local levels. Public, private, religious and home schools alike are eligible to participate, as long as students are in the sixth, seventh and/or eighth grade. The Florida Engineering Society (FES) Big Bend Chapter sponsors the Tallahassee MATHCOUNTS competition each year held at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering at Innovation Park.

JETS-TEAMS Competition

Each spring the College of Engineering is host to the Test of Engineering Aptitude Mathematics and Science (TEAMS) competition. TEAMS is a unique and challenging academic competition dedicated to providing real-world engineering and problem-solving experience to high school students. The TEAMS competition is a one-day event where students answer questions that represent college freshman-level engineering coursework and team members use their knowledge of math, chemistry, physics, biology, and computer applications The competition is administered by Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS).

Challenger Learning Center

The College operates a Challenger Learning Center, located in downtown Tallahassee, as its K-12 outreach. The Center uses aerospace as a theme to foster long-term interest in science, technology, engineering and math; create positive learning experiences; and motivate students to pursue higher education and careers in these fields. To accomplish this mission, the Challenger Learning Center features a state-of-the-art Space Mission Simulator, IMAX® theatre and domed high-definition planetarium to create a holistic educational and entertaining experience.
