Summer Research Experience at CMU:
A major component of our PREM program is the Summer Research
Experience for undergraduates at CMU. In summer 2005, a total of six FAMU
PREM Undergraduate Fellows spent ten weeks at CMU performing research
in Materials Science. The students were assisted in their research by
faculty and graduate students.
At the conclusion of their research experience, they had written a paper
and made two presentations to faculty and students at CMU. Faculty and
students at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering were able to attend both
presentations and ask questions through video conferencing (for some pictures
of the video conference, click here).
The details of the students and their research topics are listed below:
Celina Dozier - Worked with Prof. Paul Salvador on the Characterization
of CuInSe2 Thin Films for Photovoltaics.

Ysela L. Chiari - Worked with Prof. Katayun Barmak on the Calorimetric
Studies of Fe/Pt Multilayer Thin Films.

Nicholas Bembridge - Worked with Prof. Anthony Rollett on 5
Parameter analysis of Modified 316 LN Stainless steel.

Dhanvir Aujla - Worked with Prof. Anthony Rollett on the Effects
of Straining on Copper-Silver Hardness.

Chukwuemeka Shina Aofolaju - Worked with Prof. Paul Salvador
on the Characterization of CuInSe2 Thin Film Solar Cells.

Renee Gordon - Worked with Prof. Michael McHenry on the Analysis
of Amorphous Nanocomposite Materials
