FSU Registration Tools

Memo from Barber, 3/20/01. Please see the second paragraph below for zero-capped classes.

Now that registration has opened I would like to remind you all to please continue directing your students to use the two main web tools provided to help them prepare for registration: course look and course requirements. Both tools are available from the Registrar's home page or the FSYou page.

The course look up function provides students with real time information about meeting place and time, instructor name and enrollment information. Course offerings may be view by selecting one (or a combination) of three criteria: course prefix and number, department name, or instructor name. This tool does provide additional functions such as links on the building abbreviations to a copy of the campus map and links to catalog course descriptions. I would like to point out one thing that some times causes confusion when using this tool. There is a check box on the screen in the lower right hand corner labeled "show only open courses". This is automatically checked. By leaving this checked, the search will display will only "available courses". Or in other words, courses that still have seats open. This means courses that are zero capped to control enrollment will not display. Students trying to target those courses simply have to uncheck the "show only available courses" box before hitting the submit button.

The course requirement page allows students to select a combination of undergraduate degree requirements (X or Y, Gordon rule, liberal studies, computer competency, etc) and pull up a list of those offerings for a specific semester. It is very similar in appearance to the course look up tool.

The Registrar's home page is http://registrar.fsu.edu. Links to the registration system and course look up are available from this home page under the subheading "Registration Tools".
