Justin
Schwartz, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, received his
Ph.D. degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1990. Following
six months as a Science and Technology Agency of Japan Fellow at the National
Research Institute for Metals, he joined the Department of Nuclear Engineering
at the University of Illinois at Urbana as an Assistant Professor in August,
1990. He joined the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, Department of Mechanical
Engineering as an Associate Professor in 1994 and he currently teaches
courses in materials and superconductivity. Dr. Schwartz also heads the
High Temperature Superconductor Magnets and Materials Group at the National
High Magnetic Field Laboratory, where he conducts research on high temperature
superconductors, including high field magnet applications, materials processing,
magnetic properties, and engineering issues such as magnetothermal stability
and mechanical behavior. Professor Schwartz collaborates with research
groups at EURUS Technologies, Oxford Superconductor Technologies, MAGLEV
2000 of Florida Corporation, Nordic Superconductor Technologies, American
Superconductor Corporation, Maine Research and Technology, and the Naval
Research Laboratory.
