Faculty Profile

Luiz M. Lourenco, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, received his D.Sc. degree from Oporto University, Portugal, (1984); Docteur es Sciences Appliquees from the University of Brussels (1982); Diploma with Honors and recepient of the Von Karmon prize from the Von Karman Institute (1979) and Dip. Eng. from Oporto University in 1978. Following two years as Research Associate at Lockheed Georgia, Dr. Lourenco joined the Department of Mechanical Enginering in 1985 as its third faculty member. Dr. Lourenco teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in the thermal-fluid area and conducts research on experimental methods, optical diagnostics, two-phase flows and heat Transfer. In 1987 he received a NASA Certificate of Recognition for his work on particle image velocimetry (PIV).
