Dr. Primal
Fernando, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering,
joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the FAMU-FSU College
of Engineering in Fall of 2007. Dr. Primal Fernando received his PhD and
MSc degrees in Energy Technology and Sustainable Energy Engineering from
the Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden in 2007 and 2000 respectively.
He received his BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University
of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka in 1996. His dissertation research was in the area
of refrigeration and heat pump technologies. Recently he has been involved
in research of solar absorption refrigeration systems. He currently teaches
courses in Thermal Fluid Sciences (Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat
transfer) and Introduction to Mechanical Engineering (Statics and mechanics
of Materials). His long-term goals are to develop new correlations for
heat transfer in microchannel heat exchangers and modelling the heat transfer
and flow behaviours. His research interests are,
- Study of surface tension forces and capillary actions in microchannels.
- Boiling and condensation heat transfer of various fluids in micro
channels.
- Single and multiphase flows in microchannels.
- Absorption refrigeration
