Faculty Profile

Ching-Jen Chen, Dean of the College of Engineering and Professor of Mechnical Enginering, received his Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University in 1967, and his M.S. from Kansas State University in 1962. Professor Chen was named Dean in August, 1992. Prior to his appointment as Dean, he was on the faculty at the University of Iowa since 1967 and served there as the Chair of the Department of Mechanical Enginering from 1982 to 1992. Dean Chen has assumed many administrative and professional responsibilities nationally and internationally, has been a consultant to numerous governmental agencies and private industries, and has received numerous recognitions and awards for his contributions. He currently teaches graduate courses in turbulence and convective heat transfer. His research interests are in laminar and turbulent convection, turbulence modelling, computational methods in fluid flows and heat transfer, and bio-magnetic fluid dynamics. Dean Chen is a Fellow of ASME.
