Areas Covered

  The academic level and the subject matter of the examination correspond mostly to the BS program in Mechanical Engineering, although some material corresponds to the Master of Science Degree Program within our Department.

You will be tested in three areas:

1.

Mathematics,

2.

Major Area,

3.

Minor Area.

The major and minor areas should be selected when you sign up for the Preliminary Exam. The areas are:

1.

Dynamics and Controls,

2.

Solid Mechanics,

3.

Material Science,

4.

Fluid and Thermal Sciences.

(Prior to Fall 2001, Solid Mechanics and Material Science were a single area.)
