M.S.M.E - Nonthesis Option

About the Nonthesis Option

The non-thesis version of the M.S.M.E. Program has been instituted for students with special circumstances. Ordinarily, the thesis option is strongly recommended, especially for students who intend to perform research in the future. The thesis is considered an important component of the graduate student's experience.

Examples of students who choose the nothesis option include BS-MS students who are required to complete a project similar to a thesis and M.S.M.E.-Online students who are pursuing an M.S. degree online.

Students are required to apply for permission from the graduate committee to take the non-thesis option. The application must be filed during the first year of the MS program.

Further, students who receive Financial Aid from the department (including Teaching Assistants, Research Assistants, and Fellowship / Scholarship recipients) MUST select the Thesis Option.

Switching from thesis to non-thesis option is generally strongly discouraged. Students wanting to switch must obtain approval from their advisor and the graduate coordinator
