Faculty Profile

Dr. Christopher K. W. Tam, Distinguished Research Professor of Mathematics and Affiliate Professor of Mechanical Engineering, received his Ph.D. and M.Sc. from the California Institute of Technology (CALTECH) in 1963 and 1966, respectively, and his B.Eng. degree from McGill University in 1961. He remained at CALTECH as a Research Fellow for one year before joining the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1967 as an Assistant Professor. Professor Tam joined the Department of Mathematics at Florida State University in 1971. Professor TamÕs interests are in computational aeroacoustics, jet noise, air frame noise, hydrodynamic instability, and turbulence. Professor Tam received the AIAA Aeroacoustics Award in 1987, the NASA Technology Utilization and Application Office Award in 1981, the Arnold Engineering Development Center Technical Achievement Award and the AEDC Annual Technology Achievement Award in 1993. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America, and Associate Fellow of the American Insitute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
