George Buzyna, Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Associate Chair, received his Ph.D. degree from Yale University in 1967, and his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1960 and 1962, respectively. Following a summer fellowship in the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Program at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, he returned to Yale University for two years as a Post Doctoral Fellow. He joined the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Institute of the Florida State University as a Research Associate in 1969. Dr. Buzyna joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 1986. As Associate Chair of the department, he is primarily responsible for the undergraduate program. He teaches a wide range of courses in the thermal sciences and dynamics areas. His major research activity has been in the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics area, with a focus on rotating thermal convection experiments and transition to turbulence. His current interests also include experimental gas dynamics.
