To Teaching ClassesYou will want to adjust general volume with the Behringer's Main Mix L fader, the instructor's volume with the Channel 7 fader, the room mikes with the channel 8 fader. The wireless is processed by the left part of the Alesis, the room mikes by the right part.
Rotate the blinds on the windows so that the near edge is up, and only up as far as needed to keep the sun out.
In the cabinet, all pots should be at 4. The I/O and power (5) lights should be on. The Genie 1 light should be on.
Layout of the mikes by mixer (rows A to E are from front to rear, and numbers from wall with windows to wall with door:
The volume control (front) should be at 12 o-clock for Van Dommelen, 10:30 for Chandra, 12 or maybe a bit more for Hollis. Output to channel 1 of the mixer. Shure power supply attached.
A red light on the wireless microphone sender itself means there is less than an hour left on the battery. Replace immediately.
Warning: NEVER TURN ON THE PHANTOM POWER SUPPLY ON THE REAR NEXT TO THE MAIN POWER SWITCH. This will short 49 V to ground and damage will occur.
Warning: NEVER PUT SOMETHING IN BOTH THE LINE AND XLR INPUTS OF THE SAME CHANNEL.
The input of channel 1 is the Shure receiver; of channels 2, 3, 4, and 5 the room mikes; of channel 7 the left output of the Alesis, of channel 8 the right output of the Alesis. The Alt 4/R output in the back goes to the left input of the Alesis; the Alt 3/L output to the right input of the Alesis; the Main Mix L output goes to the line-in (NOT mic in) of the Real Producer. (Ignore the left output, it is for video conferencing in nonweb classes.) The power supply should be attached. The power, but not the phantom power should be on.
The only lights that should be on are the power LED; the volume indicator bar LEDs below it; and the Alt LEDs of the channels (1-5) with mikes in them.
All Lo-Cut filter buttons 1-5 should be down.
The gain of the wireless mike in channel 1 should be at 12 o'clock; of the room mikes in channels 2-5 half a unit past 12 o'clock (pointing just beyond the 0 of the -10). The gain of the processed signals 7 and 8 should be one unit before 12 o-clock.
All yellow EQ pots should be at 12 o'clock except the channel 7 and 8 low and high pots that should be two units before 12 o'clock. All other pots should be fully counter clockwise, except the channel 1 (wireless) pan, which should be fully clockwise (right) and the channel 7 and 8 pans, which should be at 12 o-clock.
The faders of the channels 1-5 with mikes in them, of channels 7 (processed wireless) and 8 (processed room mikes), and of Main L should all be at 0 dB, but the Alt 3-4 fader (preprocessed wireless and combined room signals) should be at -10 dB. Ignore the Main R fader. The remaining unused faders should be fully down.
The Main Mix button should be down (to display Main Mix volume on the LED display); all unmentioned buttons should be up.
The left input (wireless) comes from the Behringer's Alt 3/R output; the right input from the Alt 4/L output. The left (processed wireless) output goes to channel 7 in the Behringer; the right (processed room mikes) to channel 8. The power suply should be attached and the power switched on.
All buttons should be out. The switches at the back should be to the +4dB position.
All controls should be at the marked position near 12 o'clock, except: For the wireless, the compressor treshold should be at -20, its ratio at 2:1, its output at 0 dB, and its gate controls should both be fully counter-clockwise. For the room mikes, the compressor treshold should be at -20, its ratio at 2:1, it output at 0 dB, and its gate controls should both be fully counter-clockwise.
The Main Mix L of the Behringer should be ducted to the line-in (LINE) input of the Videum AV card. In Volume Controls/ Properties/ Recording, set the volume of line-in so that the bottom of the slider is at the SECOND mark (ONE-AND-A-HALF units above the lowest position). In Videum configure, the line-in slider should be at the THIRD mark (TWO units open).
