The College has created this web page to provide you with information regarding the College's response to the increase in the H1N1 influenza pandemic. The College has taken measures to support the heath and well being of our engineering education community. This web page, future email alerts and CCTV posts, are intended to keep you abreast of issues regarding the flu and answer your questions and concerns regarding engineering policies and procedures for absences from work and school. Everyone's cooperation is greatly appreciated.
If you have a fever of 100 degrees or more with a cough and sore throat, you are encouraged to self isolate (stay home) until you are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications. Most people who get the flu will not need the care of a physician. Using common sense to stay home, rest and drink plenty of fluids for 3 to 5 days may be sufficient medical attention for most individuals.
Students will not be required to provide a medical excuse from a doctor or clinic for flu symptoms for class absences. However, they must self-report their illness as soon as possible by contacting the Office of the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Curriculum at 850-410-6423. They may also visit this weblink or send an email to studentsupport@eng.fsu.edu with the following information: Name, Student ID Number, University, Phone Number, Email Address, and expected date of return. Students who are absent must complete an Excused Absence Request Form (obtained in Student Services) upon their return to class. Students should also contact their course instructors to notify them they will be missing class since they are still responsible for making up all missed work including quizzes, assignments and examinations.
Faculty and other supervisors are encouraged to be understanding of the absences of students and employees who are sick with flu symptoms or those who are absent due to taking care of sick family members.
The College has placed sanitizing stations around the engineering buildings. You are all encouraged to use the sanitizing solution, but not abuse the use. You are further encouraged to wash your hands frequently with soap and water, cover your cough with a tissue or sleeve, and stay home if you are sick.
Please let me know if you have further questions or concerns related to this matter.
