EEL4515 - Digital Communication Systems
Curriculum Designation: Tier II Elective course for electrical engineering majors.
Course Description: Sampling principle, spectral analysis of digital waveforms and noise, pulse and digital transmission systems, digital multiplexing, error probabilities, and system performance.
Prerequisites: EEL 3135
Corequisites: EEL 4021

Instructional Objectives:
- Define and apply basic random variable and random process principles.
- Design and evaluate analog to digital conversion systems including coding and multiplexing.
- Evaluate bandwidth of baseband, line coded signals (binary and M ary).
- Design optimal threshold detectors (matched filter and correlation).
- Determine the reliability of binary and M-ary signals in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN).
- Design optimum receivers and evaluate reliability in geometric space.
- Evaluate and compare bandwidth and performance of digital modulation techniques.
- Perform link budget analysis of wired and wireless communication systems.
- Recognize the need for lifelong learning and identify methods to engage in lifelong learning.
- Explain or analyze contemporary issues in digital communications.
