Program Evaluation
System for Program Evaluation and Continuous Program Improvement
The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) is committed to continual improvement of its Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) and Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCpE) degree programs. The department has adopted the "Evaluation Process Flow Loop" shown graphically below for periodic program evaluation. The process provides for a "closed loop" ensuring continuous program improvement.
Evaluation Process Flow Loop
We shall use a variety of assessment methods to examine the effectiveness of the BSEE and BSCpE degree programs in meeting their desired program educational objectives. Data will be gather periodically through student, faculty, employer, recruiter and alumni evaluation instruments. The results of each evaluation will be a set of recommendations for program improvement to be adopted by the faculty as described by the evaluation process flow diagram below. The table given below summarizes the major assessment methods used by the department for continous program improvement. It also includes the frequency of the assessment and its evaluation and the objective of the assessment method. Detailed descriptions for each assessment method are given in each link.
Assessment Methods
| Name of Assessment | Frequency of Assessment | Frequency of Evaluation | Objective of Assessment |
| Student Exit Survey | Every Semester | End of the Semester | Review of Program by Students |
| Focus Groups | Spring Semester | Summer Semester | Review of Program Educational Outcomes with Stakeholders |
| Course Instructional Objectives | Every Semester | Spring Semester | Review of Course Objectives |
| Course Program Outcomes | Every Semester | Spring Semester | Review Program Outcomes |
| Alumni Survey | Periodically | Periodically | Review of Program Educational Outcomes by Alumni |

Evaluation Legend
| Term | Description |
| Assessment | Faculty teaching courses will evaluate their courses each semester. |
| Preliminary Evaluation | Faculty members designated to oversee each course conducts a preliminary evaluation of the assessment. Initial recommendations for program and course improvements can be made in this step. |
| Area Committee Evaluation | The six (6) technical area committees evaluate all the courses within their technical area, annually, prior to the annual ABET workshop. Formal recommendations for program and course improvements are made in this step. |
| ABET Workshop | The ECE faculty consider area committee recommendations and other ABET issues in an annual workshop. |
| Adoption | Formal adoption of program and course changes from the ABET workshop are coordinated by an ABET Executive Committee. Course and curriculum changes are coordinated through the appropriate technical area committees. The changes are then communicated to the individual faculty members for implementation. |
| Implementation | The teaching faculty implement the adopted changes in the next academic year. |
