Electrical and Computer Engineering Students Win the 2012 IEEE SouteastCon

Congratulations are in order for the SoutheastCon 1A Senior Design Team for winning the 2012 IEEE SoutheastCon Student Hardware Competition held March 15-18, 2012.

The student team members are:

  • Keenan Barnes
  • John Bevis
  • Raquel Cain
  • Diego Flores
  • Heather Luidhardt

This team beat out over 50 other teams from around the southeast US and Jamaica, which makes up the IEEE Region 3. The team's robot named 'i-GAR' competed in 3 preliminary rounds and a winner-takes-all final round of the top 8 competitors out of the preliminary rounds. In every round i-GAR completed 11 laps correctly interpreting every station and scoring 550-560 points.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty and the College's Interim Dean offered their congratulatory comments on the team's win:

  • "I would like to add my own congratulations to the team and also to Dr. Harvey whose experienced management of the SoutheastCon effort was essential. The team was very well prepared, due to in part to a very good test track the construction of which Dr. Harvey closely supervised and the well-run internal competition that he organized at the start of March." -Mike Frank, Adjunct Professor, in Electrical and Computer Engineering
  • "Congratulations on the win!" -John Collier, Interim Dean FAMU-FSU College of Engineering and Professor in Chemical and Biomedical Engineering
