Greeting From The Chair
Welcome to the web site for the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. Since the program was established in 1983, we have grown to our current numbers – 22 full time faculty members, about 300 undergraduates, and 70 graduate students (including nearly 50 Ph.D. students). The diverse backgrounds and internationally recognized research and educational expertise of the faculty encompass all major fields in Electrical and Computer Engineering. The department offers a diverse curriculum, one that we proudly offer in the unique setting of the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering!
Our faculty members work with both graduate and undergraduate students in many diverse and challenging research projects. The department has been the recipient of a number of grant awards from highly prestigious and selective national research programs. Dr. Anke Meyer-Baese is a Humboldt Fellow. Our research activities are conducted in fully equipped laboratories, and we also work closely with the Center for Advanced Power Systems and the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, both head-quartered immediately next to the College of Engineering in Innovation Park. Current research ranges over the topical spectrum from power electronics, power systems, VLSI digital signal processing, neural networks, electro-optics, energy storage devices, power aware computing, computer network security, and image and signal processing.
The two undergraduate programs, Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, are designed to provide students with a broad knowledge in basic engineering science and design. They are imminently suitable springboards to professional careers in engineering as well as to graduate programs and to professional schools like law and medicine. Both curricula end with a year-long senior “capstone” course that incorporate real-world engineering practice. Details of the integrated curriculum and its assessment can be found on this website.
Feel free to share your views and comments with us. Your feedback is very important for us to continuously assess and improve our program. This College, and by extension our Department, is unique in the country. Tallahassee is a wonderful place to live and go to college, with Southern charm and hospitality, the casualness of Florida, and all of this mixed with the vibrancy of the great students at Florida State University and Florida A&M University. I want to personally welcome you when you come to Tallahassee, so please stop by when you come.
