Welcome to Electrical & Computer Engineering

FAMU-FSU College of Engineering

The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering is a joint engineering program between Florida A&M University and The Florida State University. The College is a community of scholars dedicated to public service and the pursuit of excellence in higher education, at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Students enroll in the university of their choice and complete all of their general education or liberal studies course requirements at the campus of their home institution. However, all engineering coursework is completed at the College of Engineering Complex located near both universities.

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the joint FAMU-FSU College of Engineering offers the bachelor of science (BS) degrees in electrical and computer engineering, the master of science (MS) in electrical engineering, and the doctor of philosophy (PhD) degree in electrical engineering.

Electrical engineers (EE) influence all facets of modern life, especially in an age fueled by information processing, communications and the internet. They are involved in the design, development, and implementation of a vast variety of devices, circuits, systems, and networks that are used, for example, for electrical power generation and distribution, machine and process control, terrestrial and satellite communications, computers, signal, image, and information processing, sensors, and optoelectronics.

Computer engineers (CpE) apply the hardware skills of an electrical engineer with the software skills of a computer scientist for the design and development of computing based systems. There are a wide range of computer engineering applications ranging from nano-scale integrated circuit design to the development of wide-area data networks.

Electrical and computer engineers (ECE) require a strong foundation in mathematics and basic sciences. The ECE course curricula at the undergraduate and graduate levels is designed to provide students with skills they will need to develop professionally and promote lifelong learning.

The department also provides the opportunity to complete coursework for all the electrical engineering degree programs at The Florida State University satellite campus located at Panama City, Florida, providing educational opportunities to engineering students in the Bay County area of Florida.
