Center for Academic Support for Engineering (CASE) Instructional Laboratory Now Open

Fall 2012

The Center for Academic Support for Engineering (CASE), managed under the Office of the Associate Dean for Student Affairs & Curriculum, is now operating a new laboratory offering supplemental instruction and tutoring services, which is staffed full-time (at least 10 am – 6 pm most weekdays) in room B-221 at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. In this facility, we provide individual and small-group walk-in tutoring services for introductory courses in the Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, and Industrial engineering areas, as well as for basic math and science prerequisites. Every week, the CASE lab also holds supplemental instruction help sessions to walk students through a review of challenging concepts in selected introductory courses (EEL3003 Introduction to Electrical Engineering, EML3100 Thermodynamics, EGM3512 Engineering Mechanics, and EGN3613 Principles of Engineering Economy). Educational technologies such as a SMARTboard are utilized to help make the instructional experience more interactive and engaging for the students. The lab is also in the process of setting up workstations which will soon allow students to remotely access additional tutoring services and to remotely attend supplemental instruction sessions being conducted at other facilities scattered across both universities. Currently the lab is open Mon. 10-8, Tue. 10-6, Wed. 11-6, Thu. 8-6 and Fri. 9-4. For additional information, please visit the lab in room B221, call (850) 410-6177 or 410-6423 during operating hours, or email the lab coordinator, Dr. Michael Frank, at .

Congress of Graduate Students (COGS)

Fall 2012

Congratulations to Darshit Shah who has been selected to be the College's COGS representative with the FSU Student Government Association.

Shah will lobby for his fellow engineering graduate students' needs and will represent his department, the College, SGA and the Florida State University as a whole.

So, what is COGS?

The Congress of Graduate Students (COGS) is the official representative body of all post- baccalaureate special, masters, specialist, professional, and doctoral students at Florida State University.

In accordance to the Student Government Constitution, COGS is a funding board of the Student Government Association solely responsible for allocating all of the A&S fees it receives from graduate students to graduate students each year.

So, who will I be representing?

Each college and school of FSU is represented through liaisons (representative of COGS, hopefully you) to lobby and address needs of their prospective school. Representative are not limited to just their college, school, or department, but represent SGA and the Florida State University as a whole.

So, what services and programs does COGS provide to graduate students?

COGS provides outstanding services and programs to enrich graduate student life. COGS provides funding for various registered student organizational (RSO's) and graduate students who wish to engage themselves through research and professional exchanges – i.e. conferences and etc..

So, what is time commitment?

General Assembly meetings are held twice every month on Mondays starting at 6:30pm. Committee meetings and other special events are also apart of a representative service in COGS. Being that COGS is not systematically structured to be a burden on graduate students, many of our processes are productive, allowing graduate students' time to focus on academics, research and family.

So, what are the perks?

Service to graduate students community – DUH! Don't you want to serve your graduate students body? These students study just like you do and need support, and additionally we have some more perks for you below:
