Facebook: NA. One relevant piece of information is that I do not advise all students in this Department. Students already in our program are assigned another faculty advisor for the duration of their academic careers. All continuing students must meet with their faculty advisors in October (for Spring Term) and in March (for Summer and Fall Terms). I do not perform "substitute advising" for students who planned poorly and did not meet with their advisor prior to their registration window opening. I do advise students in the following categories:

1. Students who have changed their majors from pre-engineering to a major in this Department. All entering students should make an advising appointment with me.
2. Students who need a graduation check.
3. Students with a problem that can not be solved by their regular faculty advisor.
4. Visiting students (and/or parents), i.e., prospective students, either FTIC or transfer.

Again, all other students need to meet with their assigned faculty advisors.

Continuing students should request advising appointments with me in the following ways:

1. Call 410-6149 (the Chemical and Biomedical Engineering main office).
2. E-mail chemical@eng.fsu.edu (the Chemical and Biomedical Engineering main office).

The main office staff keeps my appointment schedule (10:30 am - 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm every weekday), and can assist students with choosing a convenient time to come in for advising.

There are times when an academic issue requires immediate attention or a student just needs a signature; students can contact the main office and I will endeavor to meet with them as soon as possible.

For Continuing Students:

I do not academically advise students via e-mail. However, if a continuing student has a short question I will be happy to answer it via my personal e-mail (finney@eng.fsu.edu).
Phone: Students should not call my personal desk phone for advising appointments. Instead, students should contact the CBE Main Office (410-6149) for advising appointments since they keep my appointment schedule.

For actual advising, face to face is required initially , although calling and setting up appointments can be done by phone, email.  After we have done the initial advising (i.e. set up their schedule until graduation) then we can deal with issues by phone or email.

Walk-ins are welcome, though it may be wise to phone ahead.

E-mail or phone advising is not suitable

I accept walk-ins as my main form of advising, however, if a student has an email request, I will advise using that method.

I prefer my student not to message me via Facebook on my personal page, other than that I accept emails and telephone calls.

email me ahead of time, facebook me ahead of time for a face to face. walk in's are ok too, but appointments are better in case I am out or on main campus.

Phone is the slowest way to get a hold of me (as Email and Facebook are much quicker).
