COE Dial-Up Server Numbers

The COE remote dial-up service may be discontinued or changed in the future, due to cost considerations.

The FAMU-FSU COE dial-up phone numbers are:

  • 410-6628
  • 410-6629

If you are running Microsoft Windows or Apple OS at home, you need to set up a PPP connection. For help in setting up your PPP connection follow the link for the appropriate operating system.

Students should ask the front desk in room A332 COE for assistance.

FSU Dial-Up Access

FSU has discontinued its dial-up Internet services (both free and pay services), due to cost considerations.

Remote Access: Windows 9x

NOTE: Win9x may ask for windows9x installation diskettes or CD.

Remember to double click desktop icons and single click most buttons and tabs. The icon MY COMPUTER should contain two other icons labeled CONTROL PANEL and DIAL-UP NETWORKING.

DIAL-UP NETWORKING contains a wizard titled MAKE NEW CONNECTION. This will guide the user through the setup routine. The standard defaults should be OK. The only entry required will be the Name that identifies the new icon. The modem selection must contain at least one modem. If not, STOP here; please call the Computing and Communication Services front desk in room A332 COE for assistance (M-F 8:00am to 12:00pm or M-F 1:00pm to 5:00pm) (850)410-6446. Otherwise Click NEXT to go on to the next page where the phone numbers will be entered. Click NEXT to finish the setup. The user is granted the opportunity to rename the new connection one last time.

Double click the icon for the COE Remote Access

  • When prompted type in your COE Unix username and password
  • click on CONNECT
  • After you are connected (this takes 15-45 seconds) choose your favorite application (Eudora, NetScape, Telnet, etc.)

Remote Access: Windows Nt 4.0

NOTE: Winnt 4.0 may ask for installation diskettes or CD.

Remember to double click desktop icons and single click most buttons and tabs. The icon MY COMPUTER should contain two other icons labeled CONTROL PANEL and DIAL-UP NETWORKING.

The CONTROL PANEL contains the icon NETWORK. Open this and the protocol TCP/IP should be listed as well as DIAL-UP ADAPTER.

After clicking Dial-Up Networking, the system responds "must install Dial-up Networking". A selection box appears that prompts the user to select the path to the Nt 4.0 CD. As the process continues, the user is asked to "Add RAS Device". If a modem is present select it, or, click install modem button. When finished the computer will ask to restart. Clicking Dial-Up Networking, the system responds "Must make a new phonebook entry". Name the entry (hint; this should identify the internet service provider), select:

  • Next
    • check "I am calling the Internet"
    • check "Send my plain text password if thats the only way to connect"
  • Next: enter phone number, also enter alternates if available
  • Finish

From the Control Panel double click Dial-Up Networking, now select the entry from the phonebook that you will customize settings, select

  • More: edit entry and modem properties
  • Server
    • Dial-up server type: PPP,Windows NT
    • Network protocols: check TCP/IP only
  • TCP/IP Settings
    • check Server assigned IP address
    • specify name server addresses
    • Primary DNS: 146.201.28.34
    • Secondary DNS: 146.201.28.35
    • check Use IP Header Compression
    • check Use Gateway on Remote Network
  • OK
  • Dial
  • You should get a confirmation message which says connect at xxxx, now use netscape, telnet or other application which requires internet access.
