Application Process

M.S. Application Procedures & Requirements   [ printable version ]

Thank you for your interest in applying for the Master's degree program in Civil Engineering. Please print this document for reference. The required documents discussed below should be uploaded in the Supporting Documents page of the University Application.

In Document 1, upload - Purpose Statement. The purpose statement should not exceed 250 words and should describe your purpose for pursuing a Master's degree in Civil Engineering, qualifications, and long-term career goals.

In Document 2, upload - Current Resume/Curriculum Vitae.

Required Recommendations

Three (3) Letters of Recommendation - Recommendations must be submitted electronically on the recommendation screen. First enter the names and email addresses of your recommenders in the recommendation section of the University Application.

Additional Departmental Consideration Requirements

  1. Official Transcripts from all schools/colleges/Universities attended and degree posted.

  2. A Baccalaureate/Masters degree from an accredited college/university.

  3. An upper division cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, on all work attempted while registered as an upper division student (beyond 60 semester credit hours).

  4. Minimum percentile ranks of 30% (score of 146) and 65% (score of 153) respectively, using the current scale on the verbal and quantitative reasoning sections of the general aptitude test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Based on the prior GRE scale, this will translate to minimum scores of 390 and 680 respectively on the verbal and quantitative reasoning sections.

  5. A minimum score of 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based) or 80 (internet-based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for all international applicants whose native language is not English. This requirement may be waived for students who have obtained a prior degree from a U.S. institution.

In Document 2, upload - Current Resume/Curriculum Vitae.

In Document 3, upload - An Essay of Intent indicating goals and reasons for pursuing a Ph.D. degree.

  5. A minimum score of 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based) or 80 (internet-based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for all international applicants whose native language is not English.
