Engineering's Student Leadership Council Now Taking Student Organization Proposals for Funding
During the Fall 2011 semester the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering reestablished their Student Leadership Council (SLC). The Council, whose primary function is to allocate the funds provided from the Florida State University Student Government Association to the College's student organizations for campus wide programming and events, is currently represented by all five of the College's academic departments with a total of 14 voting members with four executive positions; Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary. For the 2011-2012 fiscal year, the SLC has been provided an allocation budget of $7,000.
The process for student organizations to request funding from the SLC is as follows:
- A member from the organization must complete a SLC funding request form.
- Submit a completed form to Troy Mahler in room B-223A by 5:00pm on the first Thursday of the month.
- A member from the organization requesting the funds must attend the SLC meeting on the following Monday and will be allowed a maximum of 5 minutes to make the proposal for their event.
Once the Council has heard all of the proposals they will recess for deliberation and voting. Once all proposals have been voted on the Council will make an official statement regarding their decisions. If denied, organizations are welcome to re-submit their request for future consideration.
The SLC will only award funds to organizational events and programs if they are free to attend and are open to ALL current College of Engineering students. Additionally, the council will consider the following guidelines in their determinations: Is the event or program one that will benefit the College internally (ex. college bowling night) or externally (ex. picnic tables) as well as the overall quality of the event and the effectiveness of its benefits to the students.
All students are welcome to attend the SLC meetings and listen to presentations given by the student organizations, but only SLC members in attendance will be eligible to vote on funding proposals during the meeting.
