Professor receives the 2009 NATAS National Mettler-Toledo Award
Dr. Rufina G. Alamo, a professor at the Chemical and Biomedical Engineering Department of the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering has been awarded the National 2009 Mettler-Toledo Award by the North American Thermal Analysis Society. This prestigious award was established in 1968 to recognize distinguished achievement in the field of thermal analysis, including but not restricted to thermogravimetry, differential thermal methods, and effluent gas analysis. The nominee must have performed outstanding work in the utilization, creation, or refinement of thermal techniques of generally wide interest and impact. Dr. Alamo was recognized for her extensive work studying crystalline polymers using thermal analysis, spectroscopic and imaging techniques.
At the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, Dr. Alamo conducts research in polyolefins with funding from the National Science Foundation and the Exxon-Mobil Chemical Co. She has authored or co-authored more than 120 refereed journal papers and has mentored more than 25 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
This award represents the highest honor bestowed by the Society and consists of a plaque, a $2000 honorarium and a $1000 travel allowance to attend the NATAS technical meeting - all provided by the sponsor, Mettler-Toledo, Inc.
